I have been here once before
The air is thick
With the scent of pine
Roots crushed underfoot
Reminiscent of bone
I have been here once before
The wind whispers peculiarities
Horizons malformed
Yet the leaves remain
Twisting and turning
I am beckoned
Towards forlorn and obscure peaks

A fatal attraction;
Compelled by the limits
Imposed onto man
By slabs of rock
This path will surely lead to death
Though steadfast I wander
As if nourished by stone
Hypnotically commanded
by igneous formations
Eclipsing the sun
Shadows cast
upon the land
Ascend to escape
The damage that’s been done
Nothing left in the lowlands
Voices from the mountains
Whisper seductive words,
Their cries
Not to be ignored
Hypnotically commanded
by igneous formations
Eclipsing the sun
Shadows cast
upon the land
Ascend to escape
The damage that’s been done
Their stillness like a pendulum
Mesmerizing
Lured like an infant to the teat
Offering reprieve yet promising demise
Commanded by the mountains wager
Trudging upward

Desiccated
The well has run dry
Miles and miles gone
Without the faintest trickle
Without the smallest drop
Convulsions brought upon by drought
I am parched....
Deep inside the mind
a primal instinct is awakened
To alleviate this thirst
enhancing chances of survival
Tempted by the promise of urine
A diamond in the rough
My waste to return
My chalice unsheathed
To sate this pressing need
Replenished by piss
Temporarily hydrated

Starvation induced psychosis
Famished
Neurotic
Visions
of demons
cast upon the ivory and grey
A consequence of my delirious state
Exasperated
From a lack of nourishment
Predator becomes the prey
As my sight begins to fade
Mental state weary
Gut deprived and turning concave
Growing slower with each step
And Each step closer to the last
A pillar verging on collapse
An impulse that can’t be fulfilled
A pillar verging on collapse
Visions
of demons
Dance upon the ivory and grey
A consequence of my delirious state
Exasperated
From a lack of nourishment
Starved and turned to prey
As my sight begins to fade
Earth and sky engorged as they feast upon my sanity

Altitudinal Haze

This illness
This malady
This sickness
How these heights have turned
elation to madness
Oxygen once plentiful
Has run thin like the thread stitching the fabric of my conscience
The onset of nausea sacrifices my innards to the dirt
As the wailing wind wicks the warmth from my exposed skin
Rapid breath
Heart distressed
How ambition has turned awry
Morale proceeds to fail
As strength is sapped from my bones
suffering at altitudes elevated

Alpine Tomb
05:09
|

Alone, defeated
Skin lacerated by ice
as if sliced by knives
Experiencing anguish in isolation
Enshrined in snow at elevation
A summit; a sarcophagus
my demise met with eyes wide open
Frozen staring at the sun
Becoming one with the hand of god
A mortal separation
funeral bereft of buzzards
a procession at the peak
my corpse serving as a headstone
shivering to death
in this alpine tomb
Never to rest
In this alpine tomb

Physically deceased
Conscience confined
Despite this lack of life
Forever bound in glacial disgrace
Fodder for the rime
Lying still for millennia
face fixed in fear
Permanently punished in permafrost
No light enters and none to depart
A prisoner of walls
fortified by flesh and frigidity
An embarrassment to all
that is and ever was
Humiliatingly preserved in ice for centuries and centuries to come
Time unravels
My remains poked and prodded by forms unknown to man
Time unravels
Time unravelled
